Tom Killin was born in Edinburgh in 1950, with a natural skill and ambition for football, representing the Edinburgh City Football Club at a Junior level. However, Tom’s hopes of a career in football were dashed age the age of 17 when a car accident left him permanently dependant on a wheelchair. Despite this setback, Tom was regularly encouraged to maintain his active nature and continue to pursue his sporting ambitions.
The result today is one of the most well rounded sportsmen that Scotland has ever produced, who has presented Scotland and Great Britain in no less than four different sports, including wheelchair fencing, table tennis, basketball and curling, winning a catalogue of medals and so many Scottish Disability Sport Table Tennis Titles that they told him to keep the trophy.
Tom’s recent representation of Great Britain in Sochi as a member of the curling team made him the only member of the team to be present in each of the three Paralympic events since the incorporation of Curling onto the Olympic résumé in 2006.
Tom has set a massive example to future Paralympians and Olympians and professional sportspersons alike, not only representing but being hugely successful in not one but four different sports for Scotland and Great Britain, never looking back and never backing down.
