On October 1st, 2024, Sesame Access proudly participated in the Brooklands Innovation Academy (BIA) event held at the iconic Brooklands Museum. This annual gathering serves as a hub of inspiration and opportunity for young people, nurturing the next wave of engineers and innovators in the UK.
The Brooklands Innovation Academy is designed to spark a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) among secondary school students. Each year, it brings together 400 students to learn from top-tier STEM professionals, to inspire their future career paths and to fuel a love for innovation. The event’s setting, Brooklands Museum is a historic site of groundbreaking engineering achievements which adds a unique, immersive experience to the day’s lineup of lectures and hands-on workshops.
BIA was co-founded by Professor Brian Cox CBA and Lord Mawson OBE. This year, the event was further honoured by the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, Royal Patron of Brooklands Museum, who showed his support for this vital educational initiative.
The day kicked off with a lecture by Professor Brian Cox, who captivated the students with his insights into astronomy and the mysteries of black holes. After the lecture, our Sesame Access team eagerly joined the workshops, keen to observe how BIA engages, educates, and motivates young minds. We were deeply impressed by the students' enthusiasm and the high level of interaction fostered throughout the sessions.
Alison Lyons, our Director of Commercial Development, said: “Sesame was really pleased to be invited to the Brooklands Innovation Academy. As a local business pushing the boundaries of engineering and innovation, it was fascinating to see how the Academy is inspiring the next generation of engineers. We also have many synergies with Brooklands Museum - championing UK innovation, manufacturing, and talent development. It was a truly inspiring event on many levels.”
At Sesame Access, we are dedicated to supporting future engineering talent. The energy and potential we saw at BIA reinforced our commitment to innovation and developing UK talent.
We’re excited to explore more opportunities to collaborate with the Brooklands Innovation Academy and continue turning the "impossible" into reality - just as Sir Barnes Wallis, the legendary Brooklands inventor, once said: “There is no greater joy in life than finding something impossible and then showing how it can be done.”
We can’t wait to see what’s in store for these young pioneers of science and engineering.
Stay inspired and keep innovating!
